What We Do: The Children`s Heart Federation is dedicated to helping children with congenital or acquired heart disease and their families in the UK and Ireland. We are a parent-led charity consisting of 22 organisations, all of which are registered charities whose main aim is the support of families of children with heart conditions.

We aim to improve the quality of life of children and young people living with congenital and acquired heart disease by providing information and working to gain recognition of their needs and ensure adequate resources are available to meet them by:

•providing information and support •promoting effective services for their care and treatment •campaigning to improve the clinical and social care of those affected by congenital and acquired heart disease •raising awareness of the needs of children with heart conditions and their families. Our vision is of a society in which all children with congenital heart disease have both their medical and social needs met so that they can live life to the full..

How We Help Children's Heart Federation helps children with a heart defect and their families by:

  • Providing direct support

•Giving information and advice (telephone helpline, fact sheets, publications and website and making presentations at seminars and conferences); •Providing specialist medical equipment; •Giving out small grants to help families meet unexpected costs; •Organising trips that bring families together for mutual support and respite from the daily strains of life with a heart condition.


Campaigning for support and services •Working in partnership with other organisations to develop policy and campaign on issues that affect families of children with a heart condition. •Consulting with families through meetings and surveys, to understand their priorities for services; •Regular briefings on issues of interest to carers of a child with a heart problem
