| Name of Organisation: | Council for Disabled Children |
| Headline: | The umbrella body for the disabled children’s sector in England, with links to the other UK nations |
| What We Do: | The Council for Disabled Children (CDC) is hosted by the National Children's Bureau (NCB) and has a small staff team reporting to its Director. It is a membership organisation that hosts a number of networks.
The CDC Council is made up of a wide range of professional, voluntary and statutory organisations, including parent representatives, disabled young people and representatives of disabled people. CDC’s broad based membership and extensive network of contacts provides a unique overview of current issues. It also helps us promote collaborative and partnership working among organisations. CDC's vision is a society in which all disabled children's life chances are assured, their needs are met, their aspirations supported and their rights respected. |

| Services Offered: | CDC has numerous resources of interest to parents.
CDC hosts four networks including the National Parent Partnership Network (NPPN) and the Transition Information Network (TIN). NPPN has information on the all Parent Partnership Services across England, while TIN provides information and resources to people who support disabled young people in transition to adulthood, including parents and carers. CDC hosts the Every Disabled Child Matters Campaign. EDCM has a wide variety of campaigning resources for parents such as Making Disabled Children Matter Locally 2010 which gives handy tips on how to campaign in your local area. There are also online campaigning actions that can be taken. Parents can also find out information from other parents and service providers on EDCM's Facebook page. My Rights, Your Responsibility is a set of online information and printed leaflets written for parents of disabled children. The resources provide information on disabled children’s rights to access activities, community facilities and other services. The paper ‘Cemented to the floor by law’ outlines the legal duties in relation to disabled children with which public bodies must comply. It is useful reading for parent campaigners who want to work with public bodies to defend the recent improvements to disabled children’s services. CDC works collaboratively with The Centre for Excellence and Outcomes in Children and Young People's Services (C4EO) on their disability theme. C4EO’s resources include information on services available for disabled children. |
