Conducting innovative research

All of the information, training and advice we offer to families is based on the charity's world-renowned research, backed by our unique collective experience working with individuals with Down syndrome.

We are constantly seeking new opportunities for research that will deliver practical benefits for people with Down syndrome. Find out more about our research.

Through our information resources and training workshops we share the results of our innovative research and many years of expertise with thousands of families in the UK and around the world every week:

  • Information resources: we produce many of the leading information and teaching resources for families about Down syndrome. These include books, periodicals, Internet resources, teaching materials, videos and DVDs.
  • Training conferences and online courses: we offer training conferences at locations around the world with specific tracks for parents. For parents unable to attend these conferences, we have developed a comprehensive range of practical online learning courses, focusing on ways to help children with Down syndrome develop and learn.

We provide an extensive range of services to provide advice and support to families:

  • Advice and support: the charity offers a variety of ways for parents to obtain expert advice and information about developmental, educational and behavioural issues, including email discussion groups, Advice Open Days and a consulting and assessment service for families.
   * Early intervention techniques: the charity provides an early intervention service at The Sarah Duffen Centre for babies and preschool children with Down syndrome from the south of England. For parents unable to access this service, we share the techniques we use through our wide range of publications, and in particular through our See and Learn resources.

The charity operates a specialist mail order service so families have quick and easy access to the charity's own publications as well as recommended books and teaching resources for children with Down syndrome.
