Housing

Everything about housing
Housing can sometimes cause major problems in anyone's life but housing a child/young person with a disability can be challenging at the best of times. You may have to think about:-
  • Equipment - you may need ramps, special locks, door alarms for escapees, gates
  • Personal hygenine needs - getting in and out baths/showers/toilets are the wrong shape/size
  • Feeding - storage of medical feeding lines/equipment, low tables, low chairs
  • Safety - special locks, gates, 3/4 doors
  • Communication equipment
  • Storage of equipment

Sometimes the house itself will need major adaptions in order for a child/young person with a disability/special needs to live there

  • Rented or private accommodation can both present challenges - if you are looking for somewhere to live, how do you go about it?

  • And what about when your young person gets older? where do they live? supported housing, semi-independently, independently, care home, remaining in the family home?
