NHS Southampton City

Name of Organisation: NHS Southampton City
Headline: ....."to improve the health and well-being of Southampton people."
What We Do: Commissioning, the allocation of NHS resources and the contracting of providers

This basically means that they 'order' services, finding best value for patients and the Trust. Drawing up contracts with those who deliver services etc.

This may change again due to the new government's White Paper on Health, particularly in regard to General Practioners (i.e. doctors in surgeries) also 'commissioning' services for their patients.
