Newlife

Name of Organisation: Newlife
Headline: Foundation for disabled children
What We Do: Disabled children have been at the heart of the charity since 1991. As more babies and children survive conditions, accidents and infections etc. more children face enduring disability. Newlife Foundation cares for all disabled and terminally ill children.

Newlife gives practical support for disabled children throughout the UK, cares for the carers, funds medical research, creates awareness and campaigns for change.

Originally we focussed on those children born with a condition. In August 2008 we changed our name (formerly BDF/Birth Defects Foundation) and widened the scope of the charity to help more children

All this is done with passion and integrity.

Services Offered: Newlife Foundation puts the child’s needs first in all we do and all we are.

On a daily basis we are the ‘specialists for special children’ in the UK. The best way to understand what we do and how we help is to understand the sort of help we give when a call or email arrives from a family making an enquiry, by tracking what happens next we see the range of help and activities Newlife regularly provides: Nurse Services

Just one call or email to a Newlife Nurse and in answering this we will begin to understand the needs of the child and family. Whatever the query our experienced and dedicated nurses will listen to the situation and then explain, what the possibilities are for Newlife to offer support and advice.

Many parents/families say that having children with a disability is like going into a restaurant and having no menu, they don’t know what’s on offer, what the possibilities are, what are the right questions to ask or what to expect. Our Nurses are able to overcome these problems using their clinical skills and their understanding gained from speaking to thousands of families every year. Best of all our Nurses listen, understand and care. Sad and challenging times face many families in this situation and having a dedicated Nurse to rely on gives immeasurable support Equipment Grant Services

It is often during these early conversations that we identify a need such as equipment. If it’s information that is needed our nurses will supply and support. If it is a referral we will research and refer. If it’s equipment provision that’s needed we can often offer a grant and try to deliver the help they need – often within days.
