What We Do: Options (Solent Addictions Trust) has provided Southampton with a FREE substance misuse service for nearly fifty years. From small premises in Shirley Road it expanded over the years, establishing links with district and city councils, the National Health Service, primary care trusts, social services and other government agencies.

In the past few years, in partnership with Gamcare, Options has been able to widen its interests and now offers FREE one-to-one counselling to gamblers and their families.

Now Options is offering its long and valuable experience to the whole of Hampshire and is extending its service to include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), general counselling, training, education and workshops to individuals and organisations.

Services Offered: Options, in partnership with the Primary Care Trust and Southampton City

Council, have been providing a highly specialised FREE counselling service for alcohol users, their spouses, partners and families throughout Southampton for nearly fifty years.

With this valuable experience behind us, we are able to offer one-to-one counselling with experienced and skilled specialist counsellors who will create a non-judgemental, warm and nurturing environment in which clients can challenge their patterns of behaviour and find their own unique strategies for change.

All counsellors work within the standards and ethics set by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and adhere to a strict code of confidentiality.

Clients will be encouraged to consider a number of matters including;

  • alcohol awareness
  • physical, social & emotional effects
  • triggers and compulsions
  • cognitive and behavioural patterns
  • goal setting
  • making and maintaining changes
  • self-esteem, confidence and assertiveness
  • personal development
  • relationship and related emotional problems

Options is able to provide this help and support FREE to anyone living in the Southampton area. Clients will be offered a regular appointment with the same counsellor and will receive support and encouragement as he/she seeks ways of taking control of his/her alcohol intake.
