What We Do: Southampton Young Carers Project has been established for 10 years. The project works with children and young people aged between 8 - 18yrs whose lives are affected by caring for an unwell or disabled family member.

The person they care for may have a physical or learning disability, mental ill health or have difficulties with drug/alcohol use.

The project is committed to ensuring young carers enjoy positive activities and opportunities that other young people enjoy.

Services Offered: Southampton Young Carers Project currently runs 3 youth groups across the city. This enables young carers to come together, gain necessary respite from their caring role and offer peer support and understanding to each other.

The Young Carers choose and plan their activities, aiding in growth of empowerment and confidence skills.

The Young Carers project also provides a befriending service for young carers on a 1:1 basis to access hobbies, sports and recreation opportunities.

Schools Outreach Workers cover secondary schools in Southampton. They offer P S H E lessons, assemblies, and teacher training. Regular termly support groups and one off exciting activities during school holidays.

Information and advocacy is integral to the work of the project.
