Springwell School

Name of Organisation: Springwell School
Headline: For pupils with complex learning difficulties aged from 4 - 11 years
What We Do: Springwell is a designated day special school for pupils with complex learning difficulties aged from 4 - 11 years. Many pupils have associated disabilities including speech and language disorders, autism and challenging behaviour.

We pride ourselves on the high quality education we provide and the high expectations we have for each individual pupil.

Our school is a new building with amazing classrooms and facilities. Each of the eight classes have a discrete outdoor teaching area leading onto a bright open courtyard. We also have a range of specialist teaching areas including an art room, food technology room and ICT suite as well as a modern hydrotherapy pool, soft play room and large multi-sensory interactive room.

Springwell is 'a truly outstanding school' Ofsted Inspection July 2010

We currently have 64 pupils in eight classes. All children are taught in class groups staffed by one teacher and three special school assistants to up to eight pupils.

The school has consistent structures and routines across all classes which provides a very secure environment in which every child makes progress. Each class has at least one computer and an interactive whiteboard to support pupils' learning.

Springwell operates an open door policy for parents which aims to promote and extend parental involvement.

As part of the school's developing role in the education authority it has a strategic function in providing Outreach support for pupils with special needs in mainstream schools.
