Transition to Adulthood

The Journey to adulthood
Everything you should know about transition (the path to adulthood). Transition is a word that 'confuses' many parents as it can mean 'transition' to a new school i.e. mainstream to special, 'transition' into secondary school from primary. However, most services use it in the context of beginning planning for adulthood, this begins at the Annual Review in Year 9/when the young person is 14 years of age.

This can be a very scary time for the young person concerned and their Parent Carer.

Too much 'jargon' can confuse issues - jargon should be avoided when working with families. The A-buzz Forum want to make sure this process is clearer, simpler and easier for young people and their Parent Carers and also give them a 'say' in shaping these services.
